outfits: a day at the races

a while back me, the boyf and the fath went to the vintage car races.  i grew up around classic cars and always look forward to a trip to the race track.  in typical seattle fashion, it rained that day.  half the time we had to seek refuge under the vendor tents because a downpour would come out of nowhere.  made for some less than fast racing but an enjoyable time regardless.  however i did bring a jacket with a hood so i was in luck.  

later we had some pints and pizza at airways brewing then stopped at my favorite mexican store for snacks.  they started selling fresh coconut water and it was delicious.  

and yup, this black sweater is in heavy rotation.  boring i know.  but!  i didn't have to wear it this past weekend because it was 90 degrees two whole days in a row.  how spoiled are we.

i'm a creature of habit.  i like my routines and i get anxious when things don't go according to plan.  fortunately this works out for george since he (and most dogs i assume) like routines.  one thing that george and i do every day after work is go for a long walk.  rain or shine.  doesn't matter we have to do it.  since the sun decides to finally come out around the time we go for walks i've been living in these aerie shorts.  they're so comfy and the more i wear them the more they stretch to that perfect amount of bagginess.  and they have spacious pockets!  key for caring all those puppy treats and poop bags.  nothing worse than getting caught not picking up your pup's poo.  fact's of life people.  life can't be glamorous all the time.  

lets say my rainy day walking gear isn't as fashionable.  i look more like your typical seattleite.  :)

i feel like every few years my tastes in fashion want to do a 180.  i'm currently at that crossroads.  its not that i want to dress super trendy, thats not the type of gal i am.  i like to stick to my tomboyish roots.  heck i preferred nina turtles to barbie any day.  and if i did play barbie's it was usually to dress ken in drag.  i wonder what a psychologist would have to say about that.  anyway barbie has nothing to do with my current conundrum.  if i were rich i'd just hop a plane to new york and have a ball.  but since i live in a place called reality, i've been purging some oldies at buffalo and slowly trying to get some new pieces in rotation.  lately this lady in particular and all of these ladies have been my inspiration.  another obstacle has been shopping local.  i love to support my local businesses, but besides totokaelo, the pnw doesn't have much to offer me.  

boohoo, poor me, right?  anyway.  i'm finally off my vacation comedown and getting back into my daily routine.  boy did i miss ballet!  it makes monday almost the best day of the week, ALMOST.  i wish it was more often than that.

outfits: stand up comedy

I've packed away my suitcase and put my jet setting days behind me, at least for the time being.  I'm happy to be home with the boyf and Georgie but I sure do miss the heat.  Oh and there's that thing called work I had to go back to. 

With my whirlwind trips, I kept forgetting I had bought tickets to see Aziz Ansari.  This was my first time seeing stand up and boy Aziz did not disappoint.  Whenever the boyf and I go on road trips we listen to Aziz's first stand up so it was exciting to hear some new material.  If you thought his R. Kelly impression was good wait til you hear his Seal impression.  He also touched on the topics of being the cutest brown baby alive and his views on marriage.  I won't even try to repeat any of his jokes because i know I'll fail miserably.  

Afterwards we hit up Le Pichet for some late night eats.  Which was pretty much amazing.  I don't think I could ever tire of eating french food, although my waistline would.  I don't know how the French eat all that bread and stay so thin.  Must be all the wine and cigarettes.  

I picked up these shiny pants from Topshop while I was in Vegas n sale for $50!  I'd say that was a steal.  I'm not one to usually by multiples of an item but these came in high waisted shorts too and I couldn't say no.  I made friends with the girl at Barney's but other than that I got mostly odd looks while I was wandering through downtown.

A quick hello before I'm off to a work conference in Indianapolis and then Vegas for 4 days for a friend's birthday!  Not to mention I just did a little road trip to Crater Lake.  Nice to pretend to be a jet setter for a month.  The boyf and George sure are sad though.  You can follow along my travels on Instagram.  

I pulled myself together a couple of days last week.  I love that grey sweatshirt too much.  I got splattered while painting the new apartment (note to self latex chalkboard paint doesn't wash out).  It was time for a new one anyway, but then it slowly crept back into rotation.  Oh well. :)

well, here are some photos of voss and i when we listened to a little country music over at easy street on record store day. yeah you read that right COUNTRY MUSIC.  what started as boredom of my out dated ipod selection and sick of the same 5 songs on my usual listening station, country music started growing on me.  

if you're not familiar with country music stars (i'lll assume you're not) getting to see dierks bentely play in a small venue for free was pretty darn exciting.  apparently he's pals with mike mccready, who decided to make an appearance and play a few songs with him.  they even did a cover of just breathe.  (*just did a quick interweb search and found a video of it here.  success!)

portland diary: part 2

easter, always one of those holidays my family pretends not to care about but makes it into a huge ordeal at the last minute.  i was planning on enjoying our last day in rose city grabbing another cuppa joe at barista, checking out a few more shops, then hit up edgefield for some gin, new seasons for some garlic bread (i dream about the stuff) and perhaps the premium outlets on the way home.  alas, we didn't have time for everything but alcohol and carbs being high on my priority list we made time for a couple of stops.  

during our trip we went to an art installation in someones closet.  don't ask my how i get myself into this mess.  it just happens.  anyway i'm sure if you scroll through my photos you can figure out what it was. :)

the upside to coming home early was an easter egg hunt (never too old!) and the dags getting a chance to play in the lake.

portland diary: part 1

we originally planned our trip to portland because the boyf's brother was showing some work in an art show.  the show ended up getting pushed back but the idea of a mini holiday sounded too good so we headed south anyway.  luckily for me the weather gods are usually good to me when i go on vaca.  it was in the 70s and 80s when i was in new york last october and snowed less than a week later.  hows that for some luck.  anyway i couldn't have asked for nicer weather.  visited a few of our fav local haunts and discovered some new ones as well.  i had my heart set on eating at pok pok but with a two hour wait it didn't happen.  we ended up at bamboo instead.  IMO don't believe the hype its overpriced and bland.  but on the upside the bro took us to biwa and that was delightful.

on a side note, i've had these brogues for a few months now.  they began creasing a little where the foot bends but i expected that from patent leather but i wore them on a super rainy day and they start cracking like crazy.  nordstrom won't let you update a review or add to it once its been posted, so beware!  these babies aren't good for a real rainy day.

boohoo, back to my instagram pics.  i've been lurving denim like no ones business these days.  despite not enjoying wearing jeans all that much i want to wear it everywhere else.  i've also been trying to rotate in some oldies that have been hiding in the closet.  like the jeans in no. 2.  i've been wanting some boyfriend cut jeans for a while but they're all too baggy on my midget legs.  i tried on this old pair of joes jeans to see if it was time to send them to crossroads/buffalo exchange (more on that in a future post).  usually the boyf hates anything too "fashionable" but he says, oh did you finally find some boyfriend jeans?  success!  

i've been in a bit of a hair rut lately, so i've been forcing myself to try out new things.  this style is really easy and there's a tutorial here.  and it leaves your hair curly if you sleep with it up overnight.  two for one, YAY.  also i've been reading too much manga (i know i'm a secret dork and fourteen) which lead me to this funny little 'do in no. 3.  i got a lot of weird comments at work but i thought it was cute.  so they can't get me down!

outfits: a day for saints

hi!  finally a proper outfit post.  thanks to turning the clocks ahead i've been able to get outside when there's daylight.  and the sun decided to make an appearance after the snow storm blew through the city.  

this past weekend was one of those weekends where you get to do things at your own pace.  after two trips to the mountains and the boyf's birthday it was nice to have things be low key.  saturday voss, terris and i braved the snow and headed south to find some new goods for the neon nightmare shop.  and found lots of great stuff.  i behaved myself and didn't bring home any personal items.  

for linner the boyf and i sought refuge at kushi bar (which has become my new fav spot).  although the bars and streets were packed with people celebrating st. patty's day, the restaurant only had a few patrons.  guess any non-pub was a good choice for a relaxing meal.  since it was so nice out we were able to walk home.  which lead to us popping into kuhlman's and the boyf having to drag me out before i pulled out the credit card to by this pendleton portland collection coat.  i'm still tempted to go back and buy it.  it was on sale.....he should've let me buy it so it would've been remembered as the st. paddy's i bought that fabulous coat and not the st. paddy's that i saw two drunk college kids mooning each other in the middle of the day.  for the record i see drunk people's butts far more often than i'd like to admit.  such is life. :)

had to wear some obligatory green of course.  this boy scout shirt was my dad's when he was a kid!  sadly it doesn't have any of the patches on it anymore, perhaps they got moved to a larger sized shirt at some point.   i've had it for a sometime but recently started wearing it.  i think its quickly become one of my new favorite shirts.  i've also been living in this unif tank.  its so soft, it feels like one of those shirts you've had for ages that have just the right amount of wear.  i put this on instagram too and unif liked it!!  i just about died.  i'm sure she likes anything that has a unif hashtag but still.  i was giddy for the rest of the evening.

finally tried kushi bar's okonomiyaki.  i think my version is better but its a treat to have it at a restaurant and not many japanese restaurants in seattle have it on the menu.   emo made some awesome okonomiyaki but sadly they've been closed for some time.  

on the way home we found a box outside an antique store with some free treasures.  lets just say i left that creepy clown behind.
